Higher Education

Atlantic County is home to a nationally recognized university, a comprehensive community college, a blue ribbon technical high school, and outstanding public, private and charter schools.

  • Stockton University

    Located in Galloway Township, is one of America’s most distinctive public universities of the arts, sciences, and professional studies. Ranked at #14 among 2017’s Top Public Regional Universities of the North by U.S. News & World Report, Stockton’s expansion plans serve as an economic driver for the region. Stockton University recently opened their campus in Atlantic City with about 1,000 students and hopes to grow from here.

  • Atlantic Cape Community College

    Expanded its facilities with a new $44 million state-of-the-art Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics building, student center, and a Hospitality Center. Its Casino Career Institute and Academy of Culinary Arts are both critically acclaimed. In addition, the college secured a $2 million Economic Development Administration grant towards the construction of an Aviation Institute which will help provide a trained workforce to further strengthen the aviation industry in the county.

    Atlantic County Institute of Technology is the most comprehensive technical education facility in Atlantic County. Situated on a 58-acre campus in the Hamilton Business Park in Mays Landing, the Institute of Technology offers students an innovative curriculum, which combines academic instruction, career technical education, internships, and structured work experiences designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and workplace skills.

    Atlantic City Boardwalk

    Atlantic County offers one of the top destinations for individuals and families on the East Coast. Absecon Island includes the towns of Brigantine, Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate and Longport with 14 miles of pristine beaches along the Atlantic Ocean. These towns are particular favorites among summer visitors and second homeowners. The country's first boardwalk, built in 1870 in Atlantic City, includes shops, eateries, amusements, casinos, Boardwalk Hall - the home of the annual Miss America competition, light shows and seasonal firework displays. Visitors can enjoy riding their bikes or a more relaxing choice of rolling chairs and tram cars to traverse the four-mile wooden walkway which further extends into Ventnor.

    Some of Atlantic County’s biggest attractions are its Atlantic City casinos which are located on the famous Boardwalk overlooking the beach and Atlantic ocean as well as in the marina district. New Jersey’s gambling laws are among the least restrictive in the country and recently welcomed the addition of sports betting in casinos and race tracks. In addition to its casinos, online gambling has been permitted since November 2013. Atlantic City’s two newest casinos, Hard Rock and Ocean resorts are now open along with Bally's, Borgata, Caesars, Golden Nugget, Harrah’s, Resorts and Tropicana, for a total of nine casinos from which to enjoy gambling, world class entertainment and dining, retail shopping, relaxing spas, and more.

    Fine Dining in Atlantic County

    Atlantic City restaurants feature celebrity chefs such as Bobby Flay, Wolfgang Puck, Geoffrey Zakarian, Guy Fieri, Gordon Ramsey, Michael Symon, and Jose Garces, among others. And dining options celebrate cultures from around the globe. Several towns hold annual restaurant weeks (or longer) to showcase the variety and quality of their local venues. Fresh seafood, locally grown Garden State produce, award-winning wineries and breweries serve to enhance the ambiance in Atlantic County. But there's also plenty of salt water taffy, carmel corn, and hand-whipped fudge to tempt even the finest of diners.

    Arts in Atlantic County

    Arts and culture can be enjoyed throughout Atlantic County. The Bay Atlantic Symphony and the Atlantic City Ballet have entertained audiences for years. The Stockton Arts Garage and Dante Hall Theater can be found in Atlantic City while the Town of Hammonton has its own arts district with galleries and museums as well as the Eagle Theatre. The Gateway Theater recently reopened in Somers Point to provide community performances. The Stockton Performing Arts Theater in Galloway provides year-round performances and events while Atlantic County's newest museum, the Atlantic County Veterans Museum, is found in Estell Manor in the circa 1832 Daniel Estell House listed on both the state and national register of historic places.

    AtlantiCare Harmony Pavilion, Atlantic  City, NJ AtlantiCare is southeast New Jersey's largest healthcare provider, delivering cutting-edge technologies and top-notch service. The AtlantiCare Medical Center was recognized with a 2009 Baldrige Award, one of just five organizations in the entire nation to be honored for innovation and performance excellence. In July of 2011 the $20.6 million AtlantiCare Health Park at Hammonton was unveiled to the public, which includes a satellite emergency department and an expansion of the offerings at the former William B. Kessler Memorial Hospital.

    Shore Memorial Hospital Shore Medical Center was most recently recognized as a "Planetree Designated Patient-Centered Hospital, one of 39 designated facilities worldwide and the only such designee in New Jersey. This designation recognizes Shore's achievement and innovation in the delivery of patient-centered care. Shore was previously cited as one of only 405 facilities, and the only regional facility, to earn The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval in meeting or exceeding the commission’s target rates of performance for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care in 2010. In addition it was one of three hospitals nationwide to receive a Gold Seal of Approval for healthcare quality by The Joint Commission for Lumbar and Cervical Spine Surgery. Shore Medical Center has recently completed a $125 million expansion that includes a new surgical pavilion, medical office building, entrance, as well as, a  $1.8 million Pediatric Care Center, the only one of its kind in New Jersey which features a separate pediatric emergency treatment area combined with long-term, in-patient treatment rooms.

    Bacharach InstituteBacharach Institute for Rehabilitation is a CARF and Joint Commission accredited 50-bed acute medical rehabilitation hospital in Pomona, New Jersey. In addition, Bacharach’s Renaissance Pavilion is a 5-star rated sub-acute rehabilitation facility and their 17 physical and occupational therapy centers throughout South Jersey make Bacharach a proven leader in rehabilitation.

    Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in Egg Harbor Township, NJAccess to the staff and services of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is available at the Pediatric and Adolescent Specialty Care Center.

    Reliance Medical Group Reliance Medical Group renders primary care services including Ob/Gyn, Pediatric, Family Medicine and Internal Medicine to patients throughout Atlantic County and Southern New Jersey. Nine facilities are located within Atlantic County.
